The gear icon in the top-left map toolbar opens display preferences for the Track Map. MyLMU auto-aligns GPS telemetry to the track outline when a file loads — you normally do not need to nudge the line by hand. The panel is for how the map looks (line style, visibility toggles, optional fine-tuning), not for fixing broken GPS.
2D and 3D each remember their own preferences per telemetry file — changing sliders in 3D does not overwrite your 2D settings, and vice versa.
When would I use this?
| Situation | What to adjust |
|---|---|
| Line looks correct but you want clearer throttle/brake coloring | Line Style → Inputs (default) |
| Cleaner screenshots | Solid line + hide comparison markers |
| Line slightly off visually (rare) | Rotation, Scale, Offset sliders — optional fine-tuning |
| Too many markers on 2D | Turn off Comparison markers |
| 3D scene too busy | Hide Racing line or Ghost lap line |
| Zoomed too far in after panning | Reset View on the toolbar (viewport only) |
If the racing line is completely wrong, the recording may be missing GPS channels — that is a data issue, not an alignment slider issue.
Map toolbar (top-left)
Stacked controls beside the map — behavior changes with 2D vs 3D:
| Control | 2D | 3D |
|---|---|---|
| Gear | Opens display preferences (below) | Same panel; header reads 3D alignment (separate from 2D) |
| 2D / 3D | Toggle view — also M | Same |
| + / − | Zoom in/out (or follow zoom when following car) | Tighten / loosen follow-camera distance |
| Reset View | Reset pan, zoom, and follow rotation | Reset camera to default chase view, clear corner preset |
| Follow car | Lock viewport on car; drag map to orbit; slider sets follow zoom | Lock camera on car; opens Distance and View options beside the toolbar (desktop) |
3D follow camera options
When Follow car is on in 3D (desktop), a panel appears beside the toolbar:
| Control | Effect |
|---|---|
| Distance | How far the camera sits from the car (closer / farther) |
| Chase | Orbit around the car (default) |
| Front | Hood / forward camera |
| Back | Rear camera looking behind |
Turn follow off for free camera (W/A/S/D, mouse orbit). Preset corner cameras from Overlays → Corners override follow until cleared.
Follow-car state carries over when you switch 2D ↔ 3D.
Open display preferences
- Click the gear icon (hover label: Alignment Controls)
- Panel opens to the right of the toolbar
- Click the gear again to close
Automatic alignment
On load, MyLMU fits your racing line to the track layout automatically. The sliders below are optional fine-tuning if you want a slightly different scale or rotation for personal taste — not a required step when the line already looks correct.
2D-only options
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Comparison markers | Show or hide comparison markers (brake, min speed, throttle) on the map when a reference lap is loaded. Disabled until a ghost/reference is active. |
The 2D racing line is always shown on the map (no hide toggle).
3D-only options
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Racing line | Show or hide your lap path on the 3D track surface |
| Ghost lap line | Show or hide the dashed comparison-lap path. Ghost car models can stay visible via Overlays → Data even when the dashed line is off. |
Ghost lap line visibility is remembered in your browser; other toggles in this panel reset when you leave the session unless saved below.
Shared options (2D and 3D)
These apply to the active view mode. Values are saved per file for that mode.
| Control | Range | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Rotation | −180° to 180° | Rotate how the racing line sits on the map |
| Scale | 50% – 200% | Shrink or enlarge the line relative to the track |
| Offset X / Y | −200 – 200 px | Nudge the line horizontally / vertically |
| Line Thickness | 0.05× – 0.40× | Stroke width of the racing line |
| Line Style | Inputs or Solid | See below |
| Reset All | — | Restore default rotation (0°), scale (100%), offsets (0), and line thickness for the current mode |
Line style
| Mode | Appearance |
|---|---|
| Inputs (default) | Line colored by driving input — green throttle, red brake, slate coast / lift |
| Solid | Single color; pick any color with the color picker |
Inputs mode applies on both the 2D map and the 3D racing line.
What is saved
| Setting | Saved with the file | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Rotation, scale, offsets, line thickness | Yes — 2D and 3D saved separately | Kept the next time you open this file |
| Line style (Inputs / Solid) and solid color | No | Resets when you reload the viewer |
| Comparison markers toggle | No | On by default each session |
| 3D racing line toggle | No | On by default each session |
| 3D ghost lap line toggle | No — remembered in this browser | Stays as you left it on return visits |
On a shared public link, map preferences are view-only and are not saved.
Reset View vs Reset All
| Button | Location | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Reset View | Map toolbar | Viewport only — zoom, pan, or 3D camera. Does not change line style or alignment sliders. |
| Reset All | Preferences panel | Line transform defaults for the active 2D or 3D profile (see table above). |
